A. Analytics & Tracking
‘Knowledge is Power’ as the saying goes, and we’ve built in easy integrations for two of the biggest and best tools of this type - Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel. These tools both perform slightly different yet very similar functions, but what do they do exactly, how can they help you, and how do you get started?
Google Analytics is a service that tracks and reports website traffic - things such as whether your users are on mobile or desktop, how many visits the site had today, what pages were looked at, and lots of other information besides. Some of this information is provided for free, and you can choose various paid options that give you even more detailed insights - it really is a powerful, yet simple to use service!
In very similar fashion, Facebook Pixel provides insights into web traffic too, but with specific focus on Facebook adverts and conversions. It is designed to help you monitor and tune the effectiveness of any Facebook advertising you do. So if you promote your gym on Facebook for example, it can tell you how many conversions (i.e. sales) the advert resulted in. It can do even more besides, but it usually requires some technical know-how to get it working in the first instance - fortunately, we’ve taken care of these details and made it super-easy to implement!
Google Analytics - What You’ll Need
- A Google Analytics Account - Sign up for a free Google Analytics account here
- A unique tracking code - You’ll get one of these every time you add a different website’s address/URL to your newly-created Google Analytics account. You can monitor any number of websites you own (or have special access to, like your Membr site) - just enter the URL and Google will generate a unique tracking code for it. The tracking code usually takes the form of a string of letters and numbers like this AA-123456789-1.
Google Analytics - Adding to Your Membr Site
Time for the easy bit! Just log in to your Membr account and enter the tracking code you created earlier. Do this by selecting Setup->Site Setup->Settings (1) and switching to the Additional Settings tab in the main window, then just enter the tracking code in the Google Analytic Tracking Code field:
The Google Analytics Generated By Your Users
Every time one of your users opens a page on the site (but not an admin), we tell the Google Analytics system about the page that was accessed using the tracking code you supplied. Using this information, you’ll be able to see which pages are proving the most popular, and how your users are tending to use the site.
We have future plans to track user activity even more closely and give you even greater insights - check our development roadmap for more details.
Viewing Your New Analytics
Simply log back in to your Google Analytics account and you will be able to view various items of visitor data associated with the sitename/URL you entered. It can take several hours for Google to gather the first batch, so don’t be alarmed if you don’t see any information for a little while!
Facebook Pixel - What You’ll Need
- A Facebook Account - In much the same way as for Google, you’ll need an account with Facebook in order to use this feature.
- A Facebook Pixel - You’ll also need your unique snippet of Facebook Pixel code to add to your Membr site. This is a short piece of website code that helps to track conversions, but don’t be alarmed if the prospect of any programming has you running for the fire exit! Facebook generates the correct lines of code for you, then you just need to copy and paste the code into your Membr settings area - we do everything else behind the scenes for you!
To get your Pixel code, log in to Facebook and go to the Pixels tab in the Events Manager and select Create Pixel (here’s a link to take you there).
Once you’ve generated a Pixel, Facebook gives you several options for how to use it - choose Manually install the code yourself. A box with three steps in it appears next; ignore the first step, but copy the entire snippet of code shown in step 2:
Facebook Pixel - Adding to your site
Time for the easy bit again! Once you have generated and copied the Pixel code as described above, just paste it into your Membr site using the same overall process as you would for Google. So, from a logged in Membr account, select the Setup->Site Setup->Settings area, switch to the Additional Settings pane, but this time paste the entire code snippet into the bigger box near the bottom of the form marked Conversion Tracking.
The Facebook Pixel data Generated By Your Users
Unlike the more detailed tracking offered via the Google system, the Facebook Pixel system only makes a record of sales (i.e. Facebook conversions - that is to say users who signed up as a result of an advert) - so that every time a new member signs up, data is passed to Facebook using the unique Pixel code they provided. This only happens once per conversion, and happens whenever a new sign-up is passed to the payment portal to enter payment details.
Viewing Your New Pixel Data
Simply log back in to your Facebook account and you will be able to view the data generated by your pixel code. Remember, this data is based on conversions/sales, so if you don’t generate any, you won’t see any data! And as with Google, it can take some time to gather the first batch, so be patient!

Analytics can seem complex in prospect, but we hope this article has given you an idea of how easy we have tried to make it to integrate into a Membr site. Please get in touch if there’s anything else we can do to help, and of course best of luck implementing metrics of your own!
