Membr contains a unique member referral system which is designed to allow the gym to grow its membership base through the power of member referrals.
How it works:
Each new member has their own unique referral code generated by Membr. The referral code and URL are both displayed at the end of the joining process, and can also be communicated to Members via an automated email.
If the existing member shares their unique code with another person, then the referred member can enter it in the referral code box on the joining page.
(Any membership packages you have created that are 'referral only' will become unlocked/visible at this point, giving the new joiner access to packages that are not available to the general public.)
Once this person successfully joins, the system will recognise that they have been referred and by whom, providing a mechanism to reward the referring member.
There are two ways that existing members can be rewarded: either automatically or manually.
Automatically rewarding members: When auto-reward is switched on (only in UK at present), the system will automatically send a message to the payment provider, instructing them to skip the next collection for the referring member. This effectively provides them with a free period of membership, typically one month. When using Membr in this way it is best practice to set up a referral membership package, normally with a minimum contract term of 3, 6, or 12 months. Failure to do this could mean that an existing member is being granted one month free membership for referring a new member who only joins for a period of one month.
When referrals are automatically processed, the existing member will receive an automated email confirming that their referral code has been used and that the referral has been processed. As with all automated emails that are sent by Membr, the wording of the email can be adjusted by any user with Administrator access to the system.
Manually rewarding members: This method is ideal for clubs that want to have more control over the referral scheme, and perhaps have their own incentive scheme in place. The process for manually approving referrals is as follows:
• Run the Referral Code Usage report by navigating to Reports > Referral Code Usage Report to see which referral codes have been entered. This report shows both the referring member and the referred member.
• It is possible to click to the referred member's profile to check that they are on a correct package etc, before clicking on to the referring member's profile.
For details of this and all other aspects of member profiles, see our comprehensive product manual here.
